Earlier this month, surface treatment firm Chemetall (Frankfurt, Germany), which serves as the surface treatment unit of BASF’s Coatings division, recently completed the expansion of a production facility in Langelsheim, Germany.

The recent expansion included a new laboratory and office building. The production site itself is focused on the development and production of aerospace technologies. Production of the company’s Naftoseal aircraft sealants was also expanded to help meet market demand.

"We are positioning Chemetall with the capacity expansion for the future. The investment is a major milestone for the long-term success of our company," said Christophe Cazabeau, Senior Vice President of Surface Treatment.

"The demand for our aerospace technologies is high and continues to increase. The expansion will allow us to continuously and precisely meet the demands and specific requirements of the global aerospace industry."

Langelsheim is home to one of Chemetall’s largest production facilities, and the site employs 180 people. There, aircraft sealing compounds, anti-corrosive agents, cleaning products and other chemicals for surface treatment are produced. Additionally, Naftoseal sealants are accredited through the National Aerospace and Defense Contractors Accreditation Program, a global aerospace industry cooperation program for quality control compliance.

“This reflects BASF’s strategic and long-term commitment to our customers in the aerospace industry and supports our journey towards being a Surface Solutions provider,” said President of BASF Coatings division Dirk Bremm.
