In a presentation sponsored by The Sherwin-Williams Company, Troy Marshall, Fire Segment Director, and George Guanci, Project Development Manager, both of Sherwin, will go over the dangers of extrapolating coating thickness data and how to avoid mistakes by working with qualified engineers to optimize fire protection coating specifications.

  • Learn why UL discourages the practice and how to avoid it to enhance safety for building occupants and first responders;
  • Discover how to maintain UL compliance—and enhance fire protection outcomes—by optimizing the design of steel members to accurately specify coating thicknesses; and
  • Learn how qualified engineers can help optimize intumescent coating thickness specifications using structural fire engineering design principles.

About the Presenters

Marshall is Fire Segment Director—The Americas for Sherwin-Williams Protective & Marine Coatings, where he leads the fire protection segment business in North America and Latin America. He has worked in the protective coatings and corrosion solutions industry for more than 20 years and has experience in petrochemical and commercial fireproofing. He is a member of NACE International and holds Coating Inspector Program—Level 1 certification. He is also a member of the National Fire Protection Association and the Brazilian Association for Passive Fire Protection.

Guanci is Project Development Manager for Sherwin-Williams Protective & Marine Coatings and is responsible for developing opportunities for the Firetex commercial fireproofing product line in North America. He has over 35 years’ experience in the construction industry, most of which in the fire protection industry. Guanci has experience in petrochemical and commercial fireproofing, as well as UL listings and requirements, international fireproofing standards and fireproofing specification development. He is a member of the Construction Specifications Institute, NACE International and the NFPA.
