The Delaware River Port Authority is seeking contractors to perform painting and steel repairs on the Walt Whitman Bridge in Camden, New Jersey.

The scope of work in this project will include surface preparation using expendable abrasives or recyclable steel grit abrasives to remove all existing lead-based paint to Near White Blast-Cleaning (SSPC-SP 10) standards. The project also includes application of a new coating system. The steel will be coated with a standard three-coat organic zinc-rich system.

Existing coatings are known to contain lead. Containment according to SSPC Class 1A is required.

An additional contract will bid on Oct. 25 for improvement of the Walt Whitman Bridge corridor. Work will include removal and replacement of the LMC’s on bridge decks, rehabilitation of pedestrian tunnels and bearing rehabilitation. This project will be performed concurrently with the proposed coating project.
