Henry Hudson Bridge Overcoating Out for Bid

The Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority is now inviting sealed bids for overcoating of the Henry Hudson Bridge in New York City.

The estimated contract duration is 27 months.

The bid is estimated to range between $25-50 million. Bids are due Sept. 24.

Scope of Work

The contract will include steel repair and full overcoat system replacement on the plate girder arch and fixed arch Henry Hudson Bridge, which connects northern Manhattan to the Bronx.

Contractors will also oversee seismic retorting of the upper-level pier columns and spandrel arch columns, steel repair work throughout the upper and lower superstructure, cleaning of bearings on the top of viaduct bent columns, partial concrete removal and replacement at viaduct bent column bases and installation of temporary shielding and work platforms along the underside of the upper level roadway.

The Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority is now inviting sealed bids for overcoating of the Henry Hudson Bridge in New York City.

For full removal and replacement of the existing overcoating system, the contractor will follow the New York State Department of Transportation coating system for Class 1 Full Removal and Recoating. The steel will be abrasive blast-cleaned to Near White standards (SSPC-SP 10) and coated with a zinc-rich primer, an epoxy intermediate and a urethane finish.

The owner-approved manufacturers are Carboline, ICI Devoe, International Paint, PPG and Sherwin-Williams. The project will also include cleaning and sealing of all pack rust throughout the upper and lower level of the superstructure.

Certification to SSPC-QP 1, QP 2 and QP 3 will be required.
