Major League Baseball’s Los Angeles Dodgers announced last week plans for a $100 million renovation project to modernize Dodger Stadium.

The work will feature a new center-field plaza, a series of elevators and bridges and changes to the venue’s statues.

The Project

The center-field plaza will give what the team calls “a front door” to the venue and will span nearly two acres. It is set to include new restaurants, a beer garden, a children’s play area and a place for live music.

Major League Baseball’s Los Angeles Dodgers announced last week plans for a $100 million renovation project to modernize Dodger Stadium.

The right- and left-field pavilions will also get upgrades with new bars with views into the bullpens along with standing-room areas.

Elevators, escalators and bridges will connect the new spaces to the rest of the stadium for a 360-degree connection around the park’s perimeter.

The team also announced moving its Jackie Robinson statue to the new center-field plaza, place alongside a brand-new statue for pitcher Sandy Koufax.

Since taking over the team in 2012, the Dodgers’ ownership has spent about $300 million on other renovations, including wider concourses.

“When we got here in 2012 we recognized then what remains true today—the design and construction of Dodger Stadium is a work of genius,” said Dodgers president and chief executive Stan Kasten.

Since taking over the team in 2012, the Dodgers’ ownership has spent about $300 million on other renovations, including wider concourses.

“It is the most beautiful place ever built to play or watch the game of baseball. But when we got here, there had been 50 years’ worth of work that needed to be done to make it a 21st century ballpark. It’s the third-oldest ballpark in baseball, but it now offers all the amenities of a modern-day ballpark.”

Kasten, along with the team’s senior vice president of planning and development Janet Marie Smith, will be spearheading the renovation.

The project at MLB’s third-oldest ballpark is slated to be complete in time for the 2020 season.
