BIO-UV Group, known for producing ultraviolet light water treatment technologies, recently announced in an emailed press release that the company will be supplying its BIO-SEA ballast water treatment system for two cruise ships currently under construction.

The two ships belong to MSC Cruises at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard at St. Nazaire, France.

According to BIO-UV Group, the contract also includes the option for an additional two vessels, which accounts for the fifth and sixth BIO-SEA ballast water treatment systems ordered by the Swiss-Italian owner.

Each ship will be equipped with one BIO-SEA B02-0300 skid-mounted unit, which is able to treat ballast water flows of 300m3/h. Similar units are also slated to be installed in two Meraviglia-class vessels, totaling four similar-class cruise ships using the system. The most recent of these to be delivered was the MSC Bellissima.

“We are delighted that MSC Cruises has again selected BIO-SEA for treating the ballast water aboard its new [cruise ships],” said Benoît Gillmann, BIO-UV Group’s president and CEO. “The order follows the success of the installation and operation of similar units aboard MSC’s Meraviglia-class of [cruise ships].”
