ACI Announces Cement Physical Tester Sessions

Earlier this month, the American Concrete Institute announced its available Cement Physical Tester certification sessions for the 2019 year.

Earlier this month, the American Concrete Institute announced its available Cement Physical Tester certification sessions for the 2019 year.

The ACI Cement Physical Tester certification is intended for various laboratory staff including:

  • New and experienced laboratory staff members;
  • QA/QC supervisors and managers;
  • Laboratory supervisors;
  • Project managers; and
  • Anyone interested in the basics of testing cement or cementitious materials.

The program will cover 10 ASTM standards, specifications, hands-on practice, classroom review and includes written and performance exams. The course lasts around two-and-a-half days and up to 12 participants can apply for the certification at one time per session location.

The session topics for the certification include tips on testing methods, how to understand test results and covers the responsibilities of the cement technician and the impact of poorly maintained equipment.

Upon registration, participants of the certificate program will receive the ACI workbook with program requirements, questions, performance checklist, practice test and articles about the field. Registration does not include any of the program-specific ASTM standards, however. Each participate must bring his or her own copies.

Review and Certification Sessions for 2019 include:

  • Denver, Colorado - CRMCA at Colorado DOT, Denver - April 10-12;
  • Fredrick, Maryland - CCRL headquarters - May 14-16;
  • Tampa, Florida - CMEC - June 24-26;
  • St. Paul, Minnesota - American Engineering Testing - Aug. 12-14;
  • Fontana, California - Caltrans Fontana, California - Sept. 18-20;
  • Austin, Texas - Central Texas Chapter - Nov. 12-14; and
  • St. Paul, Minnesota - American Engineering Testing - Dec. 16-18.

ASTM Standards and Specifications covered in review and hands-on practice include:

  • ASTM C109 Compressive Strength of Mortar;
  • ASTM C151 Autoclave Expansion;
  • ASTM C187, Normal Consistency of Hydraulic Cement;
  • ASTM C185 Air Content of Mortar;
  • ASTM C191, Time of Set by Vicat Needles;
  • ASTM C204 Blaine Fineness;
  • ASTM C305 Mixing of Pastes and Mortars;
  • ASTM C490 Practice for Determining Length Change;
  • ASTM C430, Fineness by the No. 325 Sieve; and
  • ASTM C1437, Flow of Hydraulic Cement Mortar.
