Sherwin-Williams Announces Leadership Changes

The Sherwin-Williams Company's (Cleveland, Ohio) Board of Directors recently made a handful of personnel changes, all of which went into effect on March 1.

Among the changes:

  • David B. Sewell, formerly President, Performance Coatings Group, has been elected to serve as the company’s President and Chief Operating Officer;
  • Aaron M. Erter, formerly President, Consumer Brands Group, has been elected as President, Performance Coatings Group, succeeding Sewell; and
  • Robert F. Lynch has been elected as President, Consumer Brands Group, succeeding Erter.

Since going into effect March 1, Sherwin-Williams (Cleveland, Ohio) Board of Directors elected David B. Sewell to serve as the company’s President and Chief Operating Officer.

About Sewell

Before joining the Sherwin-Williams team, Sewell received his bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Southern California. He joined Sherwin-Williams after he spent 15 years at General Electric Company working in increasing global leadership responsibilities, including most recently as General Manager, Engineering Styrenics, GE Plastics.

Since his employment with GE, Sewell served as Sherwin-Williams President and General Manager, Production Finishes Division, Global Finishes Group from July 2012 to August 2014. In his new role, he will be responsible for all operating segments, which include The Americas Group, the Performance Coatings Group and the Consumer Brands Group.

About Erter and Lynch

Before joining Sherwin-Williams in 2017, Erter earned his bachelor's degree in economics from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and his master's from the University of Notre Dame. Erter previously held the position of Senior Vice President at Valspar from December 2015 to June 2017. From then on, Erter took the position at Sherwin-Williams as the President and General Manager, Consumer Division, Consumer Brands Group from June 2017 to August 2017.

Lynch has been employed at Sherwin-Williams the longest of the three receiving promotions, starting in October 2000. He received his bachelor's degree in communications from Fordham University. Before his now-current role, Lynch served as President and General Manager, Retail – North America, Consumer Brands Group since August 2017. And, prior to that, Lynch served as Senior Vice President, Sales, Automotive Finishes Division, Global Finishes Group from August 2012 to July 2017 and President and General Manager, Paint and Sundries, Diversified Brands Division, Consumer Group from November 2008 to August 2012.
