Coatings sector representatives recently met with parliamentarians, academics and Lords to recognize the importance of the industry in driving manufacturing growth in the United Kingdom post-Brexit, according to the British Coatings Federation.

“Our goal is to promote to government, and wider stakeholders, the importance and economic potential and impact of surface engineering, advanced coatings and materials finishing,” said Tom Bowtell, CEO of the BCF at the event.

Some coatings representatives at the event included AkzoNobel, BASF, Fujichem Sonneborn, Indestructible Paint, Jotun Paints, Paint Services Group and Schloetter Company.

Several associations and professional organizations are behind the initiative and work of the forum, which aims to stimulate a higher take-up of apprenticeships, to ensure the sector maximizes its relationships with academia, delivers on innovation and embraces digital manufacturing.

The BCF is the trade association representing the U.K. paints, printing inks, powder coatings and wallcoverings sectors, and estimates that the sector is estimated to be worth 11 billion pounds to the U.K. economy today, with an indirect impact on 140 billion pounds of GDP.
