Using premature coating failure on a security barrier at an electrical power station as a case study, PaintSquare’s upcoming webinar (Dec. 5) will take a look at the customary steps for conducting a coating failure investigation.

The goal of the webinar is to provide attendees with the knowledge to conduct a coating failure investigation, as well as being able to describe certain typical field coating tests or measurements when investigating a coating failure. Attendees will also be able to list typical forms of lab testing used for analyzing coating samples and understanding the cause behind the coating failure on the security fence failure.

The presenter, Jay Helsel, senior consultant for KTA-Tator Inc., holds an MS in chemical engineering from the University of Michigan. Helsel is also a licensed professional engineer in a number of states, a NACE-certified coatings inspector, an SSPC protective coatings specialist and SSPC-certified concrete coatings inspector. In his work with KTA, Helsel manages coating projects and conducts coating failure investigations, as well as coating and corrosion assessments. Helsel also writes coating specifications and teaches KTA coating inspection courses.
