In celebration of Latvia’s 100th anniversary, airBaltic recently changed the livery of one of its new A220-300 aircraft to a color scheme that honored the country’s flag, using aerospace coatings from AkzoNobel.
Work was completed in Magnetic MRO’s paint hangar in Tallinn, Estonia. The aircraft was unveiled in an official ceremony at Riga Airport.
Rihards Priedkalns, Magnetic MRO Aircraft Paint Shop Manager, noted that it took 15 painters 1,000 hours to create the unique livery, which is colored red and white to honor Latvia’s flag.

More than 250 liters of AkzoNobel’s aerospace coatings were used to create the design, including: the 4101 Alumigrip primer, which uses non-chromate pigments to provide corrosion protection; and Aerodur 3001/3002, a basecoat and clearcoat system.
"We're proud to see our industry-leading exterior paint system used for such a striking design to mark such a special occasion in the history of Latvia," said John Griffin, Global Director of AkzoNobel's Aerospace Coatings business. "The livery looks amazing and is a fantastic example of how our customers share our passion for paint."
