Firm Meis Architects recently released new renderings for the new Major League Soccer stadium that will be popping up in Cincinnati’s West End neighborhood.

Along with the renderings, Meis clarified some design elements of the structure, which is produced with support from Cincinnati-based Elevar Design Group.

The stadium will have a canopy roof that will surround the entire stadium bowl, essentially providing cover for all seating rows. The encompassing roof and facade will all be clad with ethylene tetrafluoro-ethylene foil technology, which will permit the whole building to shine with color-changing LEDs.

The seating is slated to be situated as close to the sidelines as possible, providing a steep bowl that will allow a “dynamic soccer viewing experience.” The Bailey—the club’s designated support section—will be located at the north end of the stadium and will double the group’s current area more than 3,000 seats in one steep tier behind the home goal.

The stadium, which will be among the largest in the country for the MLS, will house FC Cincinnati and seat 26,500 (with the ability to increase to 30,000), costing an estimated $200 million.

The design updates come about three months after the FC announced the construction and design team, which includes Turner Construction Co. as the construction manager, Meis as the architect of record, Elevar as the local architecture firm helping Meis, Jostin Construction as Turner's construction management partner and Machete Group as the owner's representative.

The team is slated to present plans to the Cincinnati City Council on Nov. 19 and expects to make some changes before construction, which is scheduled to begin next year, with the stadium opening in March 2021.
