Last month, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation launched an online tool that allows the public to check the condition of any of the state’s bridges.

According to PennDOT, the state of Pennsylvania clocks in with owning more than 25,000 bridges, the third-largest amount in the nation. Users are able to search the database by county, by PennDOT district or by legislative district.

The condition of two of the Three Sisters, three similar self-anchored suspension bridges that span the Allegheny River in Pittsburgh, are marked "fair," but the third, the Ninth Street Bridge, is marked "poor."

According to Action News 4, Pennsylvania has the second-largest amount of deficient bridges in the nation. PennDOT inspects roughly 18,000 state-owned bridges every year, while also overseeing the inspection of approximately 6,500 highway bridges and culverts owned by local municipalities or other entities. Each of these bridges must be inspected at least once every two years.

The new online resource cost $22,000 to complete. Pennsylvania residents and other curious parties can check bridge conditions here.
