Paint and coatings manufacturer Diamond Vogel (Orange County) has announced its 2019 Color of the Year.

“This deep, introspective blue offers quiet reflection and a sense of security at a time we need it most,” said Sandy Agar-Studelska, Diamond Vogel Marketing Manager. “Day Spa unites us with nature, as well as mind and body, and its ageless presence makes it versatile no matter the space.”

Diamond Vogel says that the hue pairs well with both warm and cool neutrals, allowing it to be comfortable for interiors and timeless for exteriors.

“Our customers rely on our color expertise for inspiration as well as delivering the color they demand,” Agar-Studelska noted.

“In deciding our pick, we took the conversation to our customers and asked for their help in selecting this important choice from four influential trend colors, and Day Spa emerged as the color that connected with our customers.”

Other candidates for the year were Plateau, a deep green; Gold Taffeta, a rich gold; and New Foliage, a soft green.

These "color of the year" ads sound as if they were written by auto designers, who, each year proclaim the auto design of the year. Prominent radiator, teardrop shape, fins, spoilers, sharp edges, rounded edges, lots of chrome, no chrome, air scoops, big bumpers and grilles, no bumpers or grilles. The color of the year has no practical use in commercial architecture, when the design period can exceed a year, and the combined design and construction periods are longer. Even assuming the colors are not selected until the day the paint is applied, they will be obsolete as soon as the next year's color is announced. It's what's inside and how it's applied that are important.
