The Oregon Department of Transportation is seeking contractors for coating of the McCullough Bridge spanning the Coos Bay located in Coos County, Oregon.

Contractors will oversee surface preparation, coating application and furnishing of coating materials. The steel will be abrasive blast-cleaned according to Near White standards (SSPC-SP 10 or NACE No. 2) with the blast-cleaned surfaces closely approximating Pictorial Standard SP 10 of SSPC-VIS 1, or cleaned to Very Thorough Waterjet standards (SSPC-SP WJ-2) with the appearance of the water-jetted surfaces to closely approximate Pictorial Standard WJ-2 of SSPC-VIS 4.

The steel will then be coated with a three-coat organic zinc system. The owner-approved manufacturers are Carboline, Sherwin-Williams and Wasser. A coating system warranty and supplemental warranty performance bond in the sum of $15,000,000 is required.

Contractors will oversee Solvent Cleaning (SSPC-SP 1) of aluminum surfaces followed by a light Brush-off Blast-Cleaning (SSPC-SP 16) and coating application. The project also includes water pipe surface preparation, inspection and coating. Fasteners will also receive Commercial Power Tool Cleaning (SSPC-SP 15), Solvent Cleaning (SSPC-SP 1) and coating of fasteners with a prime coating system.

Soluble salt testing and removal is required. Existing materials contain lead, chromium and cadmium. Containment and disposal of hazardous materials is also required.

The coating system warranty and supplemental warranty performance bond required on this project is $15,000,000.00. It is not $15,000, as stated in the article.
