Taiwan-based Foxconn Technology Group recently announced that it has awarded 37 more contracts for its $10 billion campus project in Racine County, Wisconsin.

Six of the 37 companies are based within the county, five are based in the town of Waterford (which is in Racine County) and 10 more are based elsewhere in the region.

“Today’s announcement reflects Foxconn’s continued commitment to a ‘Wisconsin First’ plan by working with companies all across the state,” said Louis Woo, Special Assistant to Foxconn Founder and CEO Terry Gou.

Taiwan-based Foxconn Technology Group recently announced that it has awarded 37 more contracts for its $10 billion campus project in Racine County, Wisconsin.

“We are proud all of these companies have Wisconsin operations, and it is good to see that many are from Southeast Wisconsin, as well as some from the Madison area, the Fox Valley and West Central Wisconsin. Part of the reason we selected Wisconsin is the quality of workmanship we find here. We look forward to our continued partnership with companies here as we invest $10 billion and create 13,000 jobs that will pay an average of $53,875 annually.”

The Project

In April, Foxconn named Providence, Rhode Island-based Gilbane Building Co. (which has a Milwaukee office) and global firm M+W Group (Stuttgart, Germany) as its lead contractors on the 20 million square feet of building space that will eventually house a flat screen manufacturing complex and employ 13,000 people.

Earlier this month, $14 million worth of contracts were announced for a 120,000-square-foot multipurpose building, which will serve as a construction office for those working on the project at large and will also be home for research and development.

Impact & Further Meetings

The Milwaukee Business Journal reports that the massive project is spurring new job-training activity by local industry officials.

The Building Industry Group Skilled Trades Employment Program recently opened a new training center at Gateway Technical Collage’s Racine Campus to help train potential local workers.

Gilbane reportedly worked with the group during its last big Wisconsin project, a downtown tower for Northwestern Mutual.

Foxconn has to meet job creation benchmarks in order to receive $3 billion in tax breaks—a deal that has been a source of controversy for the project—and according to an analysis, the plant will add about $51 billion to the state’s gross domestic product over the 15 years that the state will pay Foxconn incentives.

The Journal Times reports that a second round of informational sessions is being held for companies that want to learn more about becoming involved in the project.

Hosted by the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation, Gilbane Building Company and M+W Group, the two sessions will take place on Aug. 1 at Gateway Technical College’s SC Johnson iMET Center.
