Contractors Sought for WA Bridge Relocation

The Washington State Department of Transportation is seeking contractors for relocation of the historic Meridian Street Bridge, currently located in Pierce County, Washington.

The Washington State Department of Transportation is seeking contractors for relocation of the historic Meridian Street Bridge, currently located in Pierce County, Washington.

Bids are due Aug. 9.

Scope of Work

The project includes the secured transfer for relocation and reuse of the State Route 167 Puyallup River/Meridian Street Bridge. The 24-foot-wide, 371-foot-long riveted steel Warren through-truss bridge weighs 379 tons and was constructed in 1925. The structure utilizes a patented “Turner Truss” and is eligible to be added to the National Register of Historic Places. Historic preservation is required.

Contractors will oversee abrasive blast-cleaning panel points of the structure and coating application to structural steel members. Steel members will be coated with either the WSDOT standard two-component inorganic zinc-rich system, two-component epoxy conforming organic zinc-rich system, or three-coat moisture-cured polyurethane system.

Owner-approved inorganic zinc-rich manufacturers include Carboline, Tnemec, ICI Devoe, PPG, Sherwin-Williams and International Paint. Owner-approved organic zinc-rich manufacturers include Carboline, PPG, Sherwin-Williams and International Paint. Owner-approved moisture-cured urethane manufacturers include Wasser, Tnemec and Sherwin-Williams.

Existing coatings may contain lead; containment is required. Certifications for SSPC-QP 1 and QP 2 are also required.
