Coatings manufacturer Tnemec Company Inc. has opened submissions for its annual Tank of the Year competition. The deadline for nominating projects is Oct. 1.

Running since 2006, Tnemec’s contest serves to celebrate the innovative and creative uses of the company’s coatings.

Submission Qualifications and Voting

For submissions, all tank styles are welcome, including new construction and renovation projects, but the tank must be completed by the nomination deadline and must have utilized Tnemec products.

Coating manufacturer Tnemec Company Inc. has opened submissions for its annual Tank of the Year competition. The deadline for nominating projects is Oct. 1.

“We look forward to another great year of recognizing the aesthetic, creative and innovative uses of Tnemec coatings on water storage tanks,” said Doug Hansen, Director of Sales, Water Tank Market. “It’s amazing how the contest has taken on a life of its own grown during the past decade. It has become a great way to showcase what’s going on in the water tank industry.”

An internal panel of “water tank enthusiasts” will evaluate 11 other finalists, along with the People’s Choice winner. The 12 finalists will receive calendar placement, and will each be eligible for the Tank of the Year Award, which will go to the tank coating job that's judged to be the best.

Last Year’s Winner

The 2017 winner of the Tank of the Year award was the Destin, Florida, tank, which depicts a beach scene in keeping with the resort town’s coastal vibe. The structure was painted by muralist Eric Henn with a Tnemec fluoropolymer product. Blocks from the coast, the illustration features two beach chairs facing the ocean.

“To help keep this mural looking its best for years to come, an advanced fluoropolymer coating system, featuring Series 700 HydroFlon, was utilized to provide unprecedented color and gloss retention,” Hansen noted.  “Approximately 95 percent of the past Tank of the Year winners were coated with HydroFlon coating systems.”

Important dates to remember with regard to the Tank of the Year 2018 contest are:

  • Oct. 1: Tank submissions due;
  • Oct. 8: People's Choice voting opens;
  • Oct. 19: Voting closes; and
  • Oct. 26: Tank of the Year winner announced.
