NACE Corrosion 2018 is underway at Phoenix Convention Center, continuing through Thursday with technical symposia, exhibits, talks and awards.

The Corrosion 2018 plenary lecture was delivered Monday (April 16) by Peter L. Andresen, FNACE, on the topic of the history of environmental cracking. Tuesday morning will bring the keynote session, by Mike Abrashoff—a former Navy commander and expert on management techniques—and the Willis Rodney Whitney Award Lecture, by Srdjan Nesic, FNACE, who will address corrosion of mild steel in CO2 and H2S aqueous environments.

Wednesday’s Frank Newman Speller Award Lecture will be presented by Bob Tapping, speaking on corrosion in nuclear power plants.

Honors

Awards to be presented Wednesday at the Corrosion 2018 Awards Dinner include:

Also honored will be the Abu Dhabi Company for Onshore Oil Operations and the Libyan Corrosion Society, given the Distinguished Organization Award, and Debbie Goodwin and Andy Nydam, sharing the NACE Foundation Founders Award.

The NACE Fellowship will be conferred upon 10 members this year; five individuals will receive Technical Achievement Awards; and 25 members will be recognized for 50-year membership.

Symposia

Coatings-related symposia on the technical program for the remainder of the conference include:

Oil and Gas Coating Technology, a two-day session Tuesday and Wednesday including eight technical papers;

Soluble Salt Limits Based on Service Environment, at 1 p.m. Tuesday;

Corrosion Solutions for Chemical and Mineral Processing with Polymer-Based Materials, taking place Wednesday morning; and
