Hunt Construction Group (Indianapolis) is being hit with an eighth lawsuit regarding its Florida Ballpark of the Palm Beaches, this one coming from North Carolina-based CCK Construction Services for $1.2 million.

What Happened

According to the lawsuit, CCK says its owed the $1.2 million in unpaid invoices for cast-in-place concrete services that the company provided on the $489 million ballpark project.

Hunt entered into a $6.2 million contract with CCK at the end of 2015 and the lawsuit alleges that Hunt refused to pay $1.2 million of undisputed labor and materials that CCK provided.

The park is serving as a spring training facility for Major League Baseball’s Houston Astros and Washington Nationals. The Real Deal reports that the teams received $113 million in tourist tax revenue from Palm Beach County and another $50 million from the state to finance some of the ballpark’s cost.

Other money, however, went up in the air when the teams alleged they found shoddy construction work on the site, such as improperly installed windows. Because of this, some payments to the general contracting joint venture of Hunt Straticon Messam and Cooper (which Hunt Construction led) to be withheld, allegedly causing some subcontractors not to get paid at all.

Neither Hunt nor CCK have officially commented on the suit.

Other Suits

In addition to the CCK lawsuit, other companies have filed lawsuits for monies owed, including Davco Electrical, which says its owed $6 million; Mancils Tractor Service, which is claiming $4 million; and MIK Construction, which says it has an unpaid claim of $500,000.
