The panel discussion took place in November at Technology Publishing Company's Contractor Connect event; participants are, from left: Mike Johnston of U.S. Minerals, Russell Raad of Abrasives Inc., and Dominic DeAngelo of Harsco, with moderator Alison Kaelin of ABKaelin LLC. (TPC vice president of content Pamela Simmons is pictured introducing the panel.)

The new webinar, Navigating the Occupational Safety and Health Admiinistration's New Beryllium Rule, was recorded in November at Technology Publishing Company's inaugural Contractor Connect event, and features three panelists representing abrasive suppliers, moderated by safety consultant Alison B. Kaelin, of ABKaelin LLC.

Panelists include:

  • Russell Raad, president, Abrasives Inc.;
  • Dominic DeAngelo, director, sales and marketing, Harsco; and
  • Mike Johnston, president and CEO, U.S. Minerals.

OSHA's new beryllium rule, promulgated in January 2018 after years of debate, lowers the permissible exposure limit for the toxic metal to 0.2 micrograms per cubic meter of air, with an action level of 0.1 micrograms per cubic meter. According to OSHA, the rule may apply to some blasting abrasives with trace amounts of beryllium in them. The three panelists will discuss the institution of the new rule and their views on the regulation's effect on blasting contractors.

The webinar, sponsored by Abrasives Inc,. Harsco and U.S. Minerals, runs from 11 a.m.-noon ET March 28. It is free to attend; register here
