The recently merged DowDuPont announced Monday (Feb. 26) the names for the three independent companies that each division will assume, continuing the company’s plan to separate.

The merger of The Dow Chemical Company (Midland, Michigan) and DuPont (WIlmington, Delaware) was completed Aug. 31, 2017. Throughout the entirety of the merging process, officials outlined a plan to separate DowDuPont's three divisions into their own companies.

The recently merged DowDuPont announced Monday (Feb. 26) the names for the three independent companies that each division will assume, continuing the company’s plan to separate.

“Our selection of these company names is a major milestone in the process of creating three strong, independent companies, and each name reflects the unique strengths and value proposition of the company it will represent,” said Ed Breen, chief executive officer of DowDuPont.

“As we move forward, a critical part of our work will be to build and strengthen the global corporate brands that express the commitment we are making to our customers, employees, investors and all of our stakeholders, to grow value through innovation.”

The companies include:

  • The Materials Science division, which will be called Dow, retaining the Dow diamond as its brand;
  • The Specialty Products division, which will be the new DuPont; and
  • The Agriculture division, which will be called Corteva Agriscience, which the company says reflects its purpose of “enriching the lives of those who produce and consume."

While certain product names will change, many will stay within the intended company and will continue to be sold under their current, widely known brand names, DowDuPont notes.

The agriculture company, Corteva Agriscience, will be headquartered at one of the current HQs, Wilmington, Delaware.

“The Dow and DuPont teams have made incredible progress in six short months and today’s announcement is another demonstration of the unprecedented value creation potential of this historic merge and spin transaction,” said Andrew Liveris, executive chairman of DowDuPont.

“We are squarely focused on unlocking enhanced cost and growth synergies, delivering on our growth investments and innovation pipeline and separating into three industry-leading companies on the accelerated timelines we recently announced.”

The company also recently announced the tentative schedule for the separations: Materials Science is anticipated to separate by the end of the first quarter of 2019, while Agriculture and Specialty Products are expected to separate by June 1, 2019.
