The Moraga-Orinda Fire District is soliciting contractors for the general construction and related site improvements on a new fire station building in Orinda, California.

The total project is estimated to cost $3,317,441. Bids are due March 5.

Scope of the Coating Work

The contractor will be responsible for the application of one coat of primer and two coats of acrylic enamel to all exterior and interior metal surfaces. Any fiber cement siding shall be sealed with one coat of alkali-resistant primer and two coats of a 100 percent acrylic latex enamel application. Exterior and interior opaque wood surfaces are scheduled to receive one coat of an undercoat primer and two coats of 100 percent acrylic enamel. Stained wood surfaces will have a single coat of an exterior semi-transparent penetrating stain. Asphalt surfaces in the fire station’s garage will also require traffic line paint application consisting of two coats of a water-based acrylic/epoxy coatings system.

Interior gypsum board surfaces are to be cleaned and receive one coat of universal primer and two coats of an acrylic latex system. The contractor should coat the interior stained wood with a multi-coatings system consisting of one coat of wood stain, one coat sanding sealer and two coats of an acrylic modified urethane, filling any holes in between third and fourth coatings. Existing holes on transparent finished wood will be filled and cleaned before receiving one coat of bleached shellac and two coats of acrylic modified urethane rubbing varnish.

If any interior steel surfaces are expected to be exposed to jobsite conditions for more than six months, abrasive blast-cleaning to Commercial standard (SSPC-SP 6) will be required prior to coating application. Exterior or interior surfaces subjected to wet conditions, fumes or high-performance coatings, should be abrasive blast-cleaned to Commercial standard (SSPC-SP 6) or Near-White standard (SSPC-SP 10) prior to coating. All interior steel surfaces that are receiving fireproofing application will also be either hand-tool cleaned to SSPC-SP 2 standard or power-tool cleaned to SSPC-SP 3 standard. Acrylic or latex-rubber-modified acrylic sealant may also be required on interior surfaces.

Owner-approved brands include Benjamin Moore, Sherwin-Williams, Tnemec, PPG, ICI Glidden, Dunn-Edwards, Kelly Moore, Vista Paint and Frazee Paint. Approved equals will also be considered.
