Only minor injuries were reported on Wednesday (Jan. 10) after a lattice boom truck crane toppled over at a construction site in Austin, Texas.

The incident, which was captured on video, happened Wednesday morning. As the crane appeared to be lifting part of a concrete wall, the chains snapped, sending the block of concrete tumbling to the ground with the crane not too far behind.

About half a dozen workers were standing around the crane when it began operating and were seen running out of the way. One worker was pinned beneath the crane, but was freed. Two men were treated for injuries, reports say. One was taken to St. David’s South Austin Hospital for treatment.

The contractor, Raymond Construction Company Inc., corresponded with television station KXAN confirming what happened.

“A crane did overturn this morning on the project site in question. No injuries were reported except one worker slightly injuring his foot when exiting the crane cab,” wrote spokesperson Justin Deming, who also noted that the company is still investigating to determine what caused the collapse.

Raymond Construction does not have any recorded violations with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration within the past five years.

Chains snapped? Will be interesting to follow the investigation on why the chains snapped.

Good reminder about hoisting and staying out of the line of fire!
