NIBS Holds 6th Annual Conference & Expo

The National Institute of Building Sciences’ sixth annual Building Innovation Conference and Expo begins today (Jan. 8) and runs through Jan. 11 at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Washington, D.C.

The program aims to explore building strategies that “sustain, strengthen and secure.”

The National Institute of Building Sciences’ sixth annual Building Innovation Conference and Expo begins today (Jan. 8) and runs through Jan. 11 at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Washington, D.C.

“For four days, attendees can connect with colleagues, hear about and see some of the latest advancements in innovative products and tools, and get a jump start on earning valuable continuing education units from both the American Institute of Architects and the International Code Council,” the organization says.

The conference includes two keynote speeches by Raymond P. Daddazio, Eng.Sc.D., PE, president of Thornton Tomasetti; James Timberlake, FAIA, partner from KieranTimberlake; as well as a keynote presentation by Earle Kennett, former Senior Vice President (retired) of the Institute; Bernard Deneke, PE, Director, Engineering Criteria and Programs, Naval Facility Engineering Command; and Sherri McMillion, PE, CEM, Specifications and Standards Criteria Manager, Naval Facilities Engineering Command and chair of the WBDG Advisory Council.

Education sessions of note include:

  • Confronting the Multiple Dimensions of Resilient and Sustainable Building Design;
  • Putting Your Best Facade Forward;
  • Delivering on the Promise: The Important Roles of Air Barriers and Commissioning; and
  • Technology as a Tool: Facilitating Coordination Across a Building's Life Cycle.

In addition to networking receptions and the annual Beyond Green awards banquet, several organizations will hold meetings including the Off-Site Construction Council, the Facility Maintenance and Operations Committee, and the National Council of Governments on Building Codes and Standards.

Onsite registration for the event opens at 7 a.m. today.
