The American Concrete Institute announce on Wednesday (Dec. 6) that it has adjusted its mission statement to reflect its goal of global standards.

ACI says that, while it has always focused on knowledge development an dissemination, the expanded mission will dedicate additional resource to advance consensus-based knowledge.

“The change to ACI’s mission reflects a transformational change to an active role in advancing the adoption of its concrete knowledge,” said Ronald G. Burg, PE, executive vice president of ACI.

“While our member experts will continue to use our consensus-based process to develop standards based on new research, global best practices, and innovative technologies, we are building a new infrastructure that will increase global adoption of this state-of-the art information.”

In the statement, ACI goes on to site a few global partnership examples, including partnering with the Saudi Arabia-based Gulf Cooperation Council Standardization Organization to develop a Gulf Building Code based on ACI’s Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete (ACI 318) and working with officials from Vietnam to translate ACI 318 and other documents.

The Institute says it hopes to assist industry professionals around the globe to manage increasing requirements for the design of concrete structures.
