The U.S. Department of Justice recently reported that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration is issuing a New Jersey Construction company nearly $200,000 in fines for violations related to unsafe scaffolding.

The report says that Vyacheslav Leshko, owner of DH Construction LLC, faced $191,215 in penalties for eight repeat and two serious violations after inspectors responded to a complaint of unsafe working conditions in March.

The U.S. Department of Justice recently reported that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration is issuing a New Jersey Construction company nearly $200,000 in fines for violations related to unsafe scaffolding.

Responders found bricklayers and masons working on scaffolding that wasn’t properly secured, didn’t protect workers from falling objects, didn’t have enough planks on the floor and were too close to power lines, according to The Inquirer.

“Scaffolding hazards continue to be one of OSHA’s most frequently cited violations. These well-known scaffold hazards could have been avoided if basic safety practices were implemented,” said OSHA Area Director Theresa Downs, in Philadelphia.

The citations include exposing workers to fall and electrical hazards, failing to train employees on scaffold hazards, failing to develop and implement an accident prevention program and not providing employees with hard hats.

The report notes that Leshko was cited for similar violations in 2014 for another company he owns, T&S Masonry.

The company, which could not be reached for comment on Friday (Oct. 20) has 15 business days from the receipt of its citations to contest the findings.
