The Waterjet Technology Association and Industrial & Municipal Cleaning Association will be hosting their annual conference Oct. 25-27 in New Orleans, at the Morial Convention Center, functioning as an academic discussion space, tradeshow and educational platform for high-pressure waterjet technology, industrial/municipal cleaning and hydroexcavation.

According to WJTA-IMCA, education is a key point of the conference, and participants will have access to a variety of learning opportunities that include live demonstrations, technical paper sessions and networking opportunities.

Conference Offerings

To kick off events, there will be a pre-conference "Basics and Beyond Short Course," which will provide an introduction for attendees on the ins and outs of waterjets and related equipment. The class is intended for everyone from first-time users to seasoned veterans looking to learn more.

The Waterjet Technology Association and Industrial & Municipal Cleaning Association will be hosting their annual conference Oct. 25-27 in New Orleans, at the Morial Convention Center.

"Boot Camp" sessions provide industry training and information, covering surface preparation issues, Department of Transporation regulations, waterblasting safety devices and other topics. These sessions also cover the update to a new entry-level hydroblast operating training and certification program.

During one of the panels offered—"High Pressure Water Cleaning Incidents: Lessons Learned"—high-pressure waterblast company representatives and end users will discuss lessons learned in the field, with emphasis on improvement.

For more hands-on learners, Phil Stein, a consultant for the industrial vacuum industry, will be presenting his interactive science lab. Stein’s demonstrations are geared toward being entertaining and easy to understand.

The academic portion of the conference will feature leading researchers and other professionals sharing new developments in the field.

Some topics that will be covered are:

  • “Full Automatization of Waterjet Cutting,” presented by M. Bauer, O. Grünzel, H.J. Maier and T. Hassel, of Leibniz Universität Hannover;
  • “Environmentally Responsible Surface Preparation with Dry Ice,” presented by D. Watson, of Cold Jet; and
  • “Waterjetting and the World of Coatings Removal,” presented by Lydia Frenzel, of the Advisory Council.

“Our goal is to provide participants with the tools necessary to succeed in a competitive and challenging marketplace through educational programs, safety practices, equipment options, live demonstrations and opportunities to connect with high-level contacts,” said Peter Wright, WJTA-IMCA association manager.
