WEFTEC 2017 will offer technical sessions, workshops and more in relation to water and wastewater treatment and storage.

WEFTEC, the annual conference of the Water Environment Federation, opens Sept. 30 and closes Oct. 4; the event features technical sessions, workshops, interactive knowledge exchange sections and continuing education opportunities. From Monday through Wednesday, an exhibit hall features vendors and mobile sessions will be open.

Coatings Technical Sessions

For those in the coatings industry, Robert Murphy of The Sherwin-Williams Company will present “Coating and Lining Solutions for Aggressive Environments” as part of the technical program on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m., part of the session “Collection System Basics You Really Need to Know!”

Murphy, 2017 winner of SSPC’s John D. Keane Award of Merit, will present on condition assessments and the challenges of selecting coatings for concrete in aggressive environments.

Also of potential interest to those in coatings: The Wednesday afternoon session “PAH Humbug! PAHs and Contaminated Stormwater Sediments: The Science and the Problem of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons.” The session will look at the problem of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons found in stormwater pond sediments; PAHs are linked with coal tar-based pavement sealcoats.

As part of the session, WEF’s Claudio Ternieden will speak on national efforts to control or limit the use of coal tar sealcoats.

Sherwin-Williams Protective and Marine Coatings will also present its 2017 Impact Awards, honoring coatings and linings-related projects in the water and wastewater sector, as part of the conference activities.
