Denmark’s new immersive LEGO experience is slated to open Sept. 28, and workers are down to the finishing touches as shown by new drone footage released by the company.

The House

The 39,000-square-foot interactive campus named LEGO House, designed by the Bjarke Ingels Group, will host an estimated 250,000 yearly guests, with both free and paid experiences in the block-shaped structure.

“LEGO House is a manifestation of the very essence of the LEGO idea,” said Jesper Vilstrup, General Manager, LEGO House. “This will be an amazing place where LEGO fans, their families and friends can experience—or re-experience—the playfulness of the LEGO universe. All activities are related to our philosophy that creative play promotes innovation.”

LEGO House was built using 21 white brick-shaped blocks stacked on top of one another and capped with a giant LEGO brick. The blocks’ facade features textured clay tiles to enhance the illusion that the building is actually made of LEGO bricks.

"The building itself reflects what Lego play and the LEGO values are all about," said Jesper Vilstrup, the manager of LEGO House. "The LEGO brick has been incorporated into the architecture in a simple but ingenious way, and visualizes the systematic creativity that lies at the very core of all LEGO play."

Many of the blocks are color-coded and match the type of learning activities that take place within those spaces: red for creativity; blue for cognitive skills; green, social; and yellow, emotional.

“The building in a way is built like you would build LEGO bricks,” Ingels said, noting that the design created an open square in the middle of the structure, which is intended for public use for the city of Billund.

The Set

To coincide with the opening, the LEGO House kit will be launched on Sept. 22. The 774-piece, 197-step kit is part of the LEGO Architecture line, which includes multiple Frank Lloyd Wright works.
