WearCOAT 1080, a new epoxy primer from Coatings For Industry Inc., is designed to reduce wait time for priming “green concrete” surfaces by activating a bond to the substrate to reduce vapor transmission.

When contractors use WearCOAT, flooring can be applied 10 days after concrete is poured. As a result, the waiting period between pouring, priming and finishing is reduced by 18 days, according to the manufacturer.

WearCOAT 1080, the new epoxy primer from Coatings For Industry Inc., reduces wait time for priming “green concrete” surfaces by activating a bond to the substrate to reduce vapor transmission.

WearCOAT 1080 is two-component, 100 percent solids, zero-VOC epoxy primer. When applied, it penetrates the concrete surface. This activates a bond to the substrate, which reduces the effects of vapor transmission. Per ASTM testing, the coating can withstand 10-plus pounds of moisture vapor pressure over 1,000 square feet per 24 hours.

The primer should be applied in one coat, and covers 160 square feet per gallon at a dry film thickness of 10 mils. The minimum application temperature should be 55 degrees Fahrenheit, and the product's pot life is 35 minutes. This product should not be used with thinners, and there is no induction time.

WearCOAT can accept epoxy, polyaspartic or urethane mid- and topcoats, as well as standard flooring adhesives.
