The American Institute of Steel Construction announced its new vice president of bridges along with two other promotions late last week.

In the series of promotions, Danielle Kleinhans became vice president of bridges, John Cross became the vice president of special projects and Tabitha Stine was named vice president of marketing development.

This past January, Kleinhans joined the AISC as managing director for the National Steel Bridge Alliance, where she built on the technical and marketing assets that made the organization such a prominent figure in the steel industry. She will remain in the position of managing director for NSBA in addition to being vice president of bridges for AISC.

In the series of promotions, Danielle Kleinhans (left) became vice president of bridges and managing director of the National Steel Bridge Alliance; John Cross became vice president of special projects and Tabitha Stine (right) was named vice president of marketing development.

Kleinhans has 15 years of experience in structural engineering, including working in management positions. Prior to her time with the AISC, she worked for the Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute, where she worked up from transport engineer to the managing director of CRSI’s Epoxy Interest Group. Before that, she served at CTLGroup as both a senior engineer and group manager for structural engineering and mechanics, and her career began with Modjeski and Masters Inc. as a structural design engineer.

Kleinhans' background extends to a bachelor’s in civil engineering from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks, as well as a master’s and Ph.D. in civil engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla.

“Danielle’s new title reflects that the NSBA division of AISC is now also fully integrated as a department of AISC. We already are enjoying the benefits of this unification, with sharing of marketing, legislative, and technical ideas and resources and increased collaboration among our departments,” Charlie Carter, president of the AISC, said in a statement. “Danielle will further grow these capabilities and activities and continue to build the NSBA brand that has come to be so well recognized in the bridge community.”

Other Promotions

Cross, who plans to retire in July  2018, has been the vice president of market development for the AISC for almost 15 years, and has led the finance department for the past eight. Overall, Cross has been involved in the engineering community for more than four decades. His background includes a bachelor’s in civil engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, a master of divinity degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, and a master of business administration degree from the Keller Graduate School of Management.

Upon retirement, Cross will be succeeded by Stine, who will assume complete responsibility for the AISC market development department. Over the past 10 years, Stein has held the position of director of technical marketing, and later she became the director of market development. She also served as AISC’s Great Plains regional engineer for four years. Her background includes a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and a master's degree in structural engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology.
