Tool Made for Aerospace Sealants

A new tool introduced by PPG (Pittsburgh) is made specifically for injecting aerospace sealants for channel seals.

The Semco 1010 HP injection tool was designed to address the requirements of selant injection for channel-sealing aircraft wings. PPG says the tool is suited to the viscous, noncuring sealant used in the application.

Channel sealing helps prevent fuel leaks during flight.

“Successful channel sealing requires the right equipment and highly knowledgeable operators,” says Wei Chen, PPG global product manager for aerospace packaging. “The wing can be damaged if the sealant application pressure is too high, requiring significant rework, particularly with composite aircraft. The Semco 1010 HP dispensing tool has a pressure limiting mechanism designed to prevent this from happening.”

The tool is ATEX Class II certified, the company says, meaning it can be used in potentially volatile environments during maintenance. It is salt fog resistant as well, according to PPG. The Semco 1010 HP weighs 19 pounds.
