Color and specialty chemicals firm Archroma (Reinach, Switzerland) announced it has launched Mowilith Powder 2702, a redispersible polymer powder for semi-flexible waterproofing mortars.

Archroma says its new powder improves properties of cement-based formulations, such as adhesion and hydrophobicity (water repellence). The firm adds that its 1K mortars offer waterproofing performance that supersedes traditional two-component systems and those of other polymers available for waterproofing mortars.

Archroma says aterproofing mortar made with Mowilith Powder 2702 can be applied over concrete, ceramic and concrete blocks, as well as cement and other cementitious bases in wet and wettable areas; buried structures, such as storage tanks and pools; internal and external walls; and underground foundations and baseboards.

The company says Mowilith Powder 2702 has semi-flexibility, which results in less mortar cracking and better overall sealing performance for 1K systems.

“1K waterproofing mortars offer environmental and simplified-handling advantages for the building and construction sector,” said Archroma Executive Luciana Fonseca in a press release. “Add to that the performance boosts made possible by our Mowilith Powder 2702, and you have an innovation to viably extend 1K systems to the market. … It’s a positive, sustainable step forward for the industry which we are pleased to support.”

Added Benefits

Archroma points out that the 1K pre-packed dry mix, when mixed with water, provides a mortar with the consistency needed during user application. The firm notes that the mortar can be re-dispersed after contact with water for later use.

The company also touts the advanced 1K option’s environmental benefits over a 2K system. One plastic packet of dry fillers is needed per box, which replaces the standard dry-mix bag and accompanying liquid bag. Archroma says that reduces the amount of plastic and content weight by up to 30 percent.

Archroma adds that the powder meets potable water reservoir requirements, and is alkyl phenol ethoxylate-free, solvent-free, ammonia-free, has low odor and low VOC, and has negligible formaldehyde content.
