It’s not just industrial painters who will enjoy the annual painting competition hosted by the Coating Society of the Houston Area: the kids will have a good time, too.

As in years past, the 28th annual competition, on April 8, will also feature tailgating that’s appropriate for the whole family, including games, face painting, door prizes and, of course, food.

The competition will showcase teams of painters as they show off their skills, facing off for a first-place finish, which will win them $900 and a free SSPC or NACE International training course.

The competition, though, will showcase teams of painters (a foreman, craftsman and helper) as they show off their skills, facing off for a first-place finish, which will win them $900 and a free SSPC or NACE International training course. The Society says it has a full slate of 10 teams competing this year.

The festivities will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. CT (thought the competition officially starts at 9 a.m.) at American Legion Post 521 in Pasadena, Texas. Admission is free.

Upcoming Trade Show

The competition is set to gear industry enthusiasts up for the society’s 2017 Trade Show on April 21 at the Pasadena Convention Center.

More than 70 exhibitors are planned, and the exhibit hall will be open from noon to 10 p.m. CT. A technical program will be held from 3-5 p.m. and the final reception will begin at 4:30 p.m.

The one-day event will also feature door prizes and live music. Lunch will be provided and dinner (crawfish boil and sides) is available for $25 per person.

About the Society

The Coating Society of the Houston Area was established in 1956 to promote education and best practices in corrosion control and to expand the knowledge and proper use of protective coatings.

Membership consists of facility owners and coating applicators, inspectors, manufacturers, and equipment suppliers.
