Hempel's new, 13 million-euro ($13.9 million) facility, in the city of Mina Abdullah, includes a solvent distillation unit, wastewater treatment plant and regenerative thermal oxidizer unit.

The new, 13 million-euro ($13.9 million) facility, in the city of Mina Abdullah, includes a solvent distillation unit, wastewater treatment plant and regenerative thermal oxidizer unit, the company says. These features will help the company to reduce hazardous waste, use wastewater for vegetation, and limit volatile organic compounds.

Hempel says the factory is the first in Kuwait with a regenerative thermal oxidizer.

Higher Production Capacity

The new facility, which officially opened March 22, has a capacity 40 percent higher than Hempel’s previously existing Kuwait plant, in Safat. It will be able to produce up to 25 million gallons per year, the company says, and will reach full production in September.

“The new factory is a state-of-the-art facility that will produce coatings that are trusted across the region to provide long-term protection to industrial assets, large buildings, homes and infrastructure,” said Karsten Pedersen, group vice president of Hempel Middle East (West).

Hempel notes that the new facility meets ISO 9000 quality management guidelines.

“Today, we celebrate an important milestone in Kuwait. Our customers are increasingly looking for green building solutions—and we are proud to be able to provide those through a production facility designed to reduce the environmental impact of coatings production,” said Hempel group president and CEO Henrik Andersen.
