Chemical manufacturer Evonik has introduced a new co-binder for corrosion-resistant paints and coatings that the company says promotes resistances to damage from chemicals and ultraviolet light.

Albidur 1223 is designed to complement Evonik’s Silikopon EF and Silikoftal ED hybrid silicone-epoxy resins, the company says, promoting long-term flexibility in coatings.

Evonik's Albidur 1223 co-binder is designed to promote long-term flexibility in anti-corrosion coatings.

“Anti-corrosion coatings tend to become brittle as they age,” explains Kirstin Schulz, marketing director for industrial coatings at Evonik. “Albidur 1223 makes these kinds of coatings more flexible over the long term. Plus, it doesn’t migrate, which keeps the chemical and UV resistance of the coating at a consistently high level.”

According to the manufacturer, Albidur 1223 does not contain solvents, is silicone-free, and meets Scandinavian regulations regarding isocyanates.
