The Sherwin-Williams Company has launched a contest that aims to show its commitment to the next generation of residential and commercial designers.

In the seventh annual STIR Student Design Challenge, entrants will be vying for a shot at national recognition and cash prizes up to $2,500. Submissions will be accepted through April 15.

The contest is open to entries from individuals or from a design team of up to three students and there is no fee to enter.

New this year, the Cleveland-based paint manufacturer promises to award $1,000 to the design schools that the first-place winners attend.

Acclaimed designers Cynthia Rowley and Vern Yip will join Sue Wadden, director of color marketing for Sherwin-Williams, as the contest judges.
