Coating manufacturer Polyset has introduced a new polyaspartic system for concrete and metal surfaces, recommended for use on tanks, bridges, railcars, pipelines and other steel structures as well as concrete floors in aggressive environments.

Ply-Guard AS is recommended for use on tanks, bridges, railcars, pipelines and other steel structures as well as concrete floors in aggressive environments.

Ply-Guard AS is a two-component aliphatic polyurea system that Polyset says has a fast cure time (40 minutes at 77 degrees Fahrenheit) and is characterized by high color and gloss retention and resistance to abrasions, impacts and wear.

Polyset says as a direct-to-metal coating, Ply-Guard AS passed 2,000 hours of testing in a salt-fog corrosion chamber, per ASTM B117. As a topcoat over a Polyset WB HRZS primer on steel, it passed 13,000 hours of the same testing.

In addition to corrosion resistance, the company says Ply-Guard AS exhibits high chemical- and UV-resistance.

Concrete Floors

For flooring applications, such as commercial or industrial flooring, loading areas or pool or patios surfaces, the coating can be applied in a three-coat system, with decorative flake chips incorporated into the second coat. Micro media chips can be incorporated for slip resistance.

The coating is available in all standard colors, and in high gloss or clear-high gloss.

Ply-Guard AS is recommended for application at 2-8 mils dry film thickness, and has a pot life of approximately 40 minutes at 77 degrees Fahrenheit. It has a shelf life of one year in the original container, unopened.
