PPG employees in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region have given more than $111,000 to selected charities in the first year of a new program, the global paint manufacturer announced Monday (Feb. 13).

The company's Charity Partner program, launched in February 2016, supports the interests and passions of employees who donate their time, money and expertise to building better communities by providing corporate matching for charitable contributions and fundraising.

The project spans 12 countries and more than 60 PPG sites.

The global paint manufacturer is headquartered in Pittsburgh. In addition to the Charity Partner program, PPG's Colorful Communities initiative also aims to build better communities where employees work and live.

In its announcement, PPG said employees in the EMEA region selected 24 charity partner organizations and raised more than $55,000 to support these partners.

The Pittsburgh-based coatings company then matched those donations.

The selected charities tackle a wide range of social and health issues in communities where PPG employees live and work, the company says. Creative fundraising projects conducted throughout the year included an employee painting workshop; flower, jewelry and bake sales; charity runs and bicycle rides; sports tournaments; quiz competitions; and many other events, according to PPG.

Doubling Impact

PPG also matches personal financial donations by employees to eligible nonprofit organizations in the U.S. and Canada.

"In 2016, PPG supported employees by investing $9.8 million through global grant-making, including $503,273 in matching financial donations by PPG employees in the U.S. and Canada," according to PPG spokesperson Jamie Altman.
