ARCOM, a Salt Lake City-based specification publisher, has announced the acquisition of Portland, Maine-based InterSpec, a firm that provides the BIM-to-specification software, e-SPECS.

Terms of the deal, announced Monday (Jan. 23), were not disclosed.

ARCOM itself was acquired last fall by Alpine Investors, a private equity firm in San Francisco.

For more than a decade, ARCOM and InterSpec have had a relationship, offering many complementary products and services for the architecture, engineering and construction industries, according to the companies. Further, ARCOM is a partner to the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and maintains and distributes the organization’s AIA MasterSpec content, which is used by 88 percent of the top architectural and engineering firms in the United States.

Technology and Specification Content

With this acquisition, ARCOM will position itself to offer the industry advanced technology with “unparalleled specification content,” according to Mark Strauch, ARCOM chairman and Alpine Investors Partner.

“The acquisition combines ARCOM’s expertly developed MasterSpec master guide specifications with the highly regarded developer of technology tools for architects, engineers, and the construction industry—InterSpec,” the acquisition announcement indicates. “InterSpec’s e-SPECS suite of products automates the specification writing process when working with MasterSpec and other master guide specifications.”

The founder of InterSpec, Gilles Letourneau, AIA, CSI, plans to remain with the combined entity.
