Life of the Dance Party: A Cement Mixer

Usually, when a party involves a “mixer,” it just means people get to mingle and meet new friends. But a French artist recently proved that a cement mixer can be the center of attention—if you dress it up like a disco ball.

Benedetto Bufalino, an artist who specializes in transforming common objects in unexpected ways, covered a regular cement mixer in mirrored tiles and took it to a construction site in Lyon, France, under cover of darkness. He then illuminated the giant disco-ball truck with a spotlight, set it spinning, and cranked up the dance music.

Unconventional as it is, the impromptu outdoor night club seems to have brought out some revelers: “Families, friends, neighbors and strangers come together to create an improvised dance floor as soon as they see the cement mixer arriving at the street corner,” wrote Designboom.

Bufalino posted a video of the recent “intervention,” as he calls it, on YouTube on Dec. 9.

Other 'Interventions'

The artist has made surprising moves like this his stock-in-trade: Past projects have included a chicken coop made of a police car; a London phone booth converted into an aquarium; and a real-life version of the Mario Kart game.

No word on whether hard-hats were required at the dance party.
