High-performance coatings and linings provider US Coatings (St. Louis) has announced the launch of a new urethane it says is rapidly customizable in order to meet the unique needs of original equipment manufacturers and the light industrial market.

UreGrip 3900 was designed to offer the aesthetics of an automotive finish combined with the performance of an industrial urethane, according to the company.

US Coatings believes UreGrip 3900 offers faster throughput in OEM applications and reduces shops' VOC and HAPs output, it says.

“This product is the perfect blend between an automotive and industrial finish,” says Jesse Fetters, territory manager and lead product tester for US Coatings.

Fetters recommends the product for professionals looking for "an epoxy/urethane system that can go wet-on-wet and offer [...] a high-end finish, at a reasonable price point.”

Described as a two-component, thin-film fast-dry, high solids, high-gloss, low-VOC/HAPs polyurethane, the product is said to provide a mirror-like depth-of-image; high early hardness; excellent adhesion; and resistance to impact, marring, abrasion, chemicals and staining.

The company recommends 3900 as a direct to metal (DTM) finish coating or as a finish over universal alkyds, epoxies, epoxy mastics or properly prepared aged coatings.

The lower film build capability is said to make 3900 aggressive against thicker film polyurethanes, and it is also reportedly ideal for maintenance and touch-up of existing structures in moderately corrosive, high visibility areas.

The official launch date for UreGrip 3900 is Dec. 1, and, for every gallon of UreGrip 3900 purchased in December, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Toys For Tots, the company says.
