From physical properties and curing mechanism to application and topcoating challenges, the next free webinar from JPCL and SSPC aims to help you gain a better understanding of inorganic zinc rich primers.

Join KTA-Tator’s Rick Huntley as he presents “Challenges with Using Ethyl Silicate Inorganic Zinc-Rich Primers.”

This free webinar from will be presented from 11 a.m. to noon ET (8 a.m. to 9 a.m. PT), Wednesday, Oct. 12.

Webinar participants will be eligible to receive continuing education credits from SSPC.

Application problems such as pinhole formation in the topcoat, dry spray, mud cracking of the applied film, mixing anomalies and more will be covered in the Oct. 12 webinar, “Challenges with Using Ethyl Silicate Inorganic Zinc-Rich Primers.”

What You’ll Learn

Inorganic zinc-rich primers are commonly used in steel fabrication shops and “blast and paint” shops on new steel. These coatings are porous, require moisture to cure properly, are sensitive to over-thickness and are prone to dry spray, all of which pose challenges for successful topcoating.

In his presentation, Huntley will explain the chemistry behind these coatings and why they are commonly specified for new steel, in addition to presenting challenges and potential solutions for successful topcoating.

Expert Presenter

Huntley is the technical manager of Consulting Services and a senior coatings consultant for KTA, where he has been employed for more than 25 years. He is a NACE Certified Coatings Inspector Level 3 (Peer Review) and an SSPC Certified Protective Coatings Specialist.

In his current position, Huntley is responsible for managing a staff of coating consultants, which involves technical review of proposals/reports and project management. He also performs consulting activities that include coating failure analysis, coating condition assessments, coating system recommendations and specification preparation review, and expert witness testimony.

Huntley has consulted on major marine coating projects, bridge coating projects, condominium and housing project rehabilitations, and parking garage renovations. He has also conducted coating specification reviews for highway departments, water districts, architectural and engineering firms, and various manufacturers.

He is a primary instructor for various KTA training courses, an SSPC NBP1-approved instructor, and holds a bachelor’s in chemical engineering from Washington State University.

Webinar Education Series

The webinar is part of the 2016 JPCL/SSPC Webinar Education Series, which provides continuing education for SSPC recertifications and technology updates on important topics.

Numerous free webcasts in the JPCL/SSPC Education Series, covering a wide range of topics, are now available at https://www.paintsquare.com/webinars.
