Garland Rolls Out Roof Membrane

The Garland Company Inc. (Cleveland) has launched a new roofing thermoplastic membrane reportedly built  to "lead the industry in UV and aging performance."

KEE-Stone FB 60 is a fleece-backed membrane designed for use as part of a two-ply hybrid roof system, according to Garland.

Garland said the KEE-Stone membrane was designed with longevity in mind.

Designed with durability and longevity in mind, the product is formulated using DuPont Elvaloy HP Ketone Ethylene Ester (KEE) to offer superior UV resistance, while maintaining low-temperature flexibility, the company says. The membrane is also reinfoced with a polymer-coated, high-performance scrim.

The design of the scrim allows the KEE compound above and below the scrim to fuse together, imparting puncture, tear and tensile strength to the membrane, Garland says.

In accelarated weathering tests, the product showed no signs of cracking or cratering even at 100 times magnification, which is reportedly 10 times more than the ASTM D 6745 standard requirement, Garland says.

For 120 years, Garland has offered roofing and building envelope products for commercial, industrial and institutional applications.

After about 10 to 15 years of experience, I will consider using it.

There is no mention about what type of 'thermoplastic' is used. The product is meant to serve as a cap sheet in a 2-ply mod bit system, but it is held in place with beads of urethane foam and seams are welded, much like a typical one-ply pvc or tpo membrane. I'm not sure why one would use this product instead of a single ply product.

This new membrane is a fleeceback KEE membrane that is designed to be installed in hot asphalt or urethane foam beads. This type of system provides the smooth clean look of a single ply thermoplastic roof system along with the multi ply protection of a modified bitumen system. Giving your roof the best of both systems.
