A new cleaner from Cathedral Stone Products Inc. (Hanover, MD) removes dirt from brick and stone with the help of just a wet sponge, according to the manufacturer.
Cathedral’s masonRE Latex 20 is formulated with natural rubber and is applied as a thick, white liquid. The coating dries to a rubbery film, the company explains, then can be stripped away, along with dirt and grime that has built up on the stone, brick or masonry surface.
No Water Needed
Cathedral notes that masonRE Latex 20 does not require water for application, making the product ideal in areas with water limitations or runoff concerns. The company says a damp sponge may be needed after removal of the film.

The product is applied thick—a minimum wet film thickness of 1/8 to 3/16 inch is specified—and can be painted on with a brush or via airless spray system. In ideal weather conditions, the product dries in about 24 hours, the company says.
It is recommended for interior and some exterior applications; substrates that are being cleaned must be shielded from rain and direct sun during the process.
Nicotine and Soot Stains
In addition to general dirt and grime, Cathedral says masonRE Latex 20 is effective at removing nicotine and soot from the surface.
Cathedral offers masonRE Latex 20 in 1-gallon and 5-gallon containers.
