The 2016 Summer Olympics may be coming to a close, but one bicycle manufacturer commemorated this year’s sporting event with a bold, responsive paint scheme for Olympians and the average rider alike.

Morgan Hill, CA-based Specialized Bicycle Components Inc. prepared an Olympic flame-inspired paint job for the cyclists they sponsored in this year’s games.

“Almost 3,000 years ago, the pinnacle of sport was celebrated with fire. Today, we honor the Gods of Sport by bringing the flame back to competition,” Specialized announced on its website.

Called the Torch, the limited edition coating has a thermodynamic property that changes color on select pieces, such as a bike frame or helmet, based on temperature. Specialized suggests it also corresponds to an increase in the intensity of the ride.

“Below 22 degrees Celsius [71.6 degrees Fahrenheit], the paint reflects the warm, orange embers of fire, and as things heat up, a striking yellow emerges,” the company says.

The paint reportedly responds to wind, water, heat and even sweat to transform its colors from red-orange to yellow and back, Bicycling magazine noted.

Olympic cyclists Vincenzo Nibali and Lizzie Armitstead took the special paint job on the road in the men's and women's road races, and Peter Sagan rode the Torch-edition bike in a mountain bike event in Rio, according to Cycling News.

But with temperatures reaching nearly 90 degrees in Rio, the bikes likely remained largely yellow, Peloton magazine indicated.

The limited edition paint job is available to the public on select bike models and one helmet style, and jerseys, shorts, socks, caps, and shoes are available sporting a corresponding but static look.
