Fortune 500 paint and coatings maker PPG announced a new appointment to its executive leadership team Monday (July 11).

Jeff Oravitz, previously MetoKote chief executive officer, was appointed vice president of PPG coatings services and president of PPG-MetoKote.

PPG confirmed completion of the acquisition July 6; the proposed transaction was originally announced June 8. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

A Return to PPG

Oravitz has spent the past 11 years with MetoKote, joining the company in 2005 as vice president. He was elected to the role of president and CEO in 2011.

Prior to his tenure at MetoKote, Oravitz worked at PPG for 20 years in a variety of roles in several coatings businesses.

On his return, Oravitz will manage the PPG coatings services group, with more than 1,500 employees globally, from the PPG-MetoKote headquarters in Lima, OH.

Oravitz will report directly to Viktor Sekmakas, PPG executive vice president.

“Jeff’s deep knowledge of the coatings services industry will serve the company well as he takes on this important role," Sekmakas told PaintSquare News.

"The PPG-MetoKote business will help PPG to better understand and meet our customers’ critical coatings requirements,” he added. “With the addition of these coatings services capabilities to PPG, Jeff will lead our efforts to deliver process efficiency and streamline coatings operations for our customers, helping to drive a new era of innovation.”

PPG-MetoKote Operations

PPG-MetoKote applies coatings to customers’ manufactured parts and assembled products.

It operates on-site coatings services within several customer manufacturing locations, as well as at regional service centers located throughout North America and Europe.

Customers ship parts to its service centers, where they are treated to enhance paint adhesion and painted with electrocoat, powder or liquid coatings technologies. Coated parts are then shipped to the customer’s next stage of assembly.

MetoKote is a leader in coatings services,” Sekmakas said when the deal was announced. “Its size, breadth of capabilities and geographic reach complement PPG’s technology and regional customer base.

“With this acquisition, we will be able to deliver process efficiency and streamline coatings operations for our customers, helping to drive a new era of innovation.”

Founded in 1969, the company grew to more than 1,500 employees and 29 facilities worldwide and serving more than 800 customers.

MetoKote reported 2015 global sales of approximately $200 million.
