A new anticorrosion coating from Cortec Corporation boasts considerable salt spray resistance at very low film thickness.
EcoShield 386 with Nano VpCL, according to the manufacturer, passed 1,000 hours of salt spray testing, applied to a steel substrate at a dry film thickness of 1 mil. Cortec says the coating’s salt spray resistance makes it ideal for corrosion inhibition with UV defense in harsh conditions, such as marine environments.

Cortec’s Nano VpCL technology involves what the company calls “a complex mixture of nano sized non-toxic organic inhibitors.” In EcoShield 386, the nanoparticles are dispersed in a water-based acrylic coating with low VOC (less than 68 grams per liter, according to the manufacturer).

Cortec notes that EcoShield 386 can be tinted to match custom colors, and can be applied directly to metal or as a topcoat over a primer. It can be applied via spray, dip or brush, and is available in a winterized version.
EcoShield 386 is also reported to be fast-drying; it’s dry to touch in 30 minutes and fully cures in 3 to 7 days, the company says. Cortec recommends the coating for use in industrial, energy, oil and gas, and automotive applications.
