A new line of waterproof concrete repair products from Formulators (Santa Ana, CA) is touted as being free of respirable crystalline silica, the subject of a recent OSHA rule aimed at limiting worker exposure.

Aquaflex Silica-Free Waterproof Concrete Repair is the newest line in the Aquaflex family of waterproof flooring installation products. According to the company, the silica-free formulation can mitigate worker exposure to silica dust during grinding or shot-blasting, and help employers come into compliance with the new OSHA regulations, which take full effect next year.

Aquaflex system being applied

Aquaflex Silica-Free Waterproof Concrete Repair is the newest line in the Aquaflex family of waterproof flooring installation products.

The new OSHA rule, effective June 23, 2016, and requiring compliance by June 23, 2017, for the construction agency, limits exposure to respirable crystalline silica to 50 micrograms per cubic foot of air.

“By eliminating RCS from our concrete repair products [the manufacturer] is taking the industry's first step toward a safe and responsible solution to high moisture flooring installations," said Benny Dickens, CEO and founder of Formulators and Aquaflex.

The Aquaflex family of products is centered around Formulators’ Aquaflex adhesive for flooring; the company recommends the Silica-Free Waterproof Concrete Repair products with its Aquaflex2 Waterproof PSA Adhesive.

"Coupling our Aquaflex Silica-Free Waterproof Concrete Repair with Aquaflex2 PSA is the easiest way to satisfy the new OSHA Final Ruling,” said Dickens. “It's now possible to avoid concrete grind and shot-blast, provide a safe and silica-free concrete repair, followed with an installation using a zero VOC, bio-based, certified green adhesive to an unlimited moisture level.”
